That moment you are so engrossed, so indulged, so engulfed, so sure…then suddenly! The latter word in its actuality makes your heart pump blood with an energy so robust that it was unaware of in the initial case. Now the palpitations don’t even give each other time, and the intervals are so attracted to each other.

You are stuck between a feeling of yearning what you imagine as the future of first sight and that of slow and steady comprehension. Your mind is locked in a space of expectations but you have to slowly breathe. You want to let go but you have worked so hard to mould what is in your hands.

Your anxiety increases your body’s weight and before you know it, you are in touch with the gravity of the situation. You met him or her and you want to love each other quickly before anything goes wrong. You certainly do not want to jump the gun but you want to surpass the doubt. It’s not easy!

If only there was a mirror that reflects the inner soul or an invincible future ambassador who can tell how it is on the other side, once you cross the bridge of acceptance. But he or she is like an eccentric painting on the wall that you must take time to figure out. Loving quickly might be a language of the superficial, because only then, only when it happens that you are sure of an undaunted future.

On this note, today’s Pen and Paper Point features two artists who grace the moment and turn it into a breathtaking experience. John Legend and Brandy just had to do this jam or else the world was never gonna end. They were purposed to work on this harmony meen! Waynne Nugent, Oladapo Torimiro, Dapo Torimiro, John Stephens, Christopher Breaux and Kevin Risto knew exactly what to say when they wrote this song. This is truly the mindset of one who is ready to build something beautiful with a stranger. Enjoy the Lyrics 😉

QUICKLY
(John Legend feat. Brandy)

(Verse 1)
If I had twenty million dollars in a vault somewhere baby, it wouldn’t matter anyway
Cause the doctor told me that I’m dying slowly
So I guess I got to love you while I’m here baby
Did you know

the news said the sky is falling, the globe is warming
my country warring, leaders are lying, time is running
no where to go

(Hook)
I know we just met but baby could u love me quickly, quickly
I…..want you to love me like you know the world is about to end baby, quickly

(Verse 2)
You said you didn’t even know my name, but
Told me we mind as well make ours the same
What do you think baby (no time)
Think it mind as well be light years away, ohhh
We just better land on the stars before they come crashing down cause I heard the news say

the news said the sky is falling, the globe is warming
my country warring, leaders are lying, time is running
no where to go

(Hook)
I know we just met but baby could u love me quickly, quickly
I…..want you to love me like you know the world is about to end baby, quickly

Yea that’s right baby kiss me like the world is quacking
do it like the earth is shaking
You got it baby, that’s right lovely
fill me like our time is sprinting faster running out of time

(Hook)
I know we just met but baby could u love me quickly, quickly
I…..want you to love me like you know the world is about to end baby, quickly

THERE COMES A TIME…

Savvy Spice Savvy Spice

The inevitable manifests itself
its agenda is recognition
Recognition to control our minds in the absence of relief
Yet we are constantly on a conquest without solid vision
but there comes a time
when a beggar is dressed in dollar notes

Sometimes the stone you didn’t see is left unturned
then you trip and fall just before it
You realize that you not in the list of the knowledgeable as you planned
you are then inclined to embrace deceit
then you learn that there comes a time
when the pain in your stabbed back becomes the route to surreal pleasure

I looked left, I looked right, I looked left again
but my neck was only flung to an uncomfortable position
The efforts of my sight immediately became in vain
My thoughts were betrayed in all portion
So I see that there comes a time
when one’s true colors are more consuming than the quick sand

So many hours
So many promises summarized and broken
They are made taller than the tallest towers
Yet they are unreachable and untruly spoken
Dear, there comes a time
when you discard those whose understanding of you is minimal or null.

PEN AND PAPER POINT!

Beautiful people! I can’t believe its been this long that I denied myself the beauty that comes from your hearts; but what can I say…I was pretty much garnering the hassle. Trust me, it is as difficult as it sounds, but the good thing is that it is not impossible.

So am working towards something great and the lessons I keep learning on a daily basis translate to me being a fighter. Victory or success can truly be elusive at times especially when you are on the brink of losing yourself. I never believed I could deal with intimidation, harassment and frustrations all at the same time and look at myself straight in the mirror to justify my existence.

I realized a secret. You need to find immortal motivation to outweigh the irregularities on the sidelines and to make any negative being look like dust right before your eyes. Never be satisfied with man’s judgement about you. It may bring you down or twist your tummy but if you stay true to yourself in what you do, that stupid judgement is irrelevant.

Am learning how to love myself, or not, I ACTUALLY DO. So when Whitney Houston became a powerhouse with her inspirational song, GREATEST LOVE OF ALL, she rang the bells of my destiny. Whitney is one musical legend that I can never stop revering because she deserves it even in her absence. She sang from her heart and even though life had some hits on her, she hit right back with the perfect vocals. It is never easy to overcome the hurdles, but you were born to overcome them. So you will eventually. Enjoy these powerful lyrics as you rise above your ashes. I love you all :-*

GREATEST LOVE OF by Whitney Houston

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be

Everybody’s searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfilled my needs
A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me

(Chorus)
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I’ll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be

(Chorus)

And if, by chance, that special place
That you’ve been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love

THE LIGHT WAS NOT GREEN

dark_hallway_kid_by_astiam300-d4aq3d6

Beckons and beckons in the hallway

The neck on the verge of a boycott

The rhythm of palpitations in the twist of quests for destiny’s prey

My attention fell short

Because my attempt to capture the voice was left to my dismay

My sight was a liar of sorts

The light was not green.

I forgot to ask a question

I did not plan for a meeting with defeat

Was it the sound of resilience that my hearing rested upon?

I had it in my diary; my dressing for the occasion was neat

It was a dangerous corner to be ambushed by disappointment’s stone

The encounter was supposed to be discrete

But the light was not green

I was in search of the great mistake

Maybe it could have been reincarnated in the tuneless song

But it was getting late and my purpose was at stake

A car beeped and I spotted the chaperone

The impression iced the bitter cake

I had to teach my feet the pace of my heartbeat for I could no longer swallow

The light was never green

Happy new year to y’all and as we start it with a mission to redefine our efforts and what not, it is imperative to be clear about what should not be on our way.

Having said that, today’s pen and paper point captures the fruitfulness and exact attitude of Fantasia Barrino in her beautiful track, Lose to Win. The first day I heard this song, I was actually taking out the trash and you can be sure I dumped it in the bin like I was paid to! The song created a powerful spirit in me, one that tuned every aspect of my life to clarity. Yo! people you need to clear everything that has no value in your life. Clean, scrub, splash, HEAD TO THE LAUNDRYMAT if you have to. I dont care what you do, just get rid of the bugs and make your life squeaky clean! Lose to Win was written by the talented Dennis Lambert, Andrea Martin, Francine Vicki Golde and Harmony Samuels and given its powerful words I do make a toast to the lives of these amazing brains. Ladies and gentlemen, this is how you get up close and candid, enjoy the lyrics 😉

LOSE TO WIN by Fantasia Barrino Hmmm-hmmmm
Ever felt so ugly, pretending that he loves me
Sometimes it’s just not money
never had to afford me
Now I’m sick and tired of
you just taking right off
Knowing I’d forgive you

You ain’t here for dinner Like I’m a beginner,
I loved you for your inner, inner, inner
And the next guy is out there, somewhere,
But you won’t dare
’cause you’re too scared

(Chorus)
Have you ever needed someone so bad
But he ain’t willing to make it last?
Sometimes you gotta lose to win again.

If it makes you cry, cry, cry
And all you do is fight
Can’t get no sleep at night
Sometimes you gotta lose to win again.

Ever felt this sorry?
All you did was worry
You didn’t want nobody,
thought it would get better
But it’s falling more than
Oh it’s falling more than ever

I just hoped that we would
Cause you’re always up to no good
Maybe it’ll take someone else, to show me better
But I don’t wanna leave ya
Oh, yeah.

(Chorus)
Have you ever needed someone so bad
But he ain’t willing to make it last?
Sometimes you gotta lose to win again.

If it makes you cry, cry, cry
And all you do is fight
Can’t get no sleep at night
Sometimes you gotta lose to win again.

Some of you know what it feels like
Caught up just in his life
Don’t wanna try again, thinking what’s the difference?
Why am I not interested?
Cause when you’ve been broken, you feel like no one can fix it Yeah

(Chorus)
Have you ever needed someone so bad (needed someone so bad)
But he ain’t willing to make it last (whoa, yeah)?
Sometimes you gotta lose to win again (win again, oh and if it makes you cry)

If it makes you cry, cry, cry (cause all you do is fight)
All you do is fight Can you not sleep at night (sometimes you gotta) Sometimes you gotta lose to win again. (gotta lose, yeah yeah) (Oh, oh, whoa) (Oh, sometimes you got to lose, you got to lose, to win again, yeah) Hey! Have you ever needed someone so bad? (have you ever?) (so bad yeah) To make it last Sometimes you gotta lose to win again (Sometimes you gotta lose to win again)

THE SCENT OF GRATITUDE

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The beckoning of relief amid extremes
overturning the deafening of situations within
Brightening the light of merriness in a deluded whim
Aspirations, proclamations and realization of a new thing
Mostly stuck in a dream
Immortality of desire, satisfaction of positive voices that sing

Suffocating, breathtaking but still it has meaning
Life is strange as the reincarnation of a whirlwind
Fond hearts leap to relate it to more of something, less of nothing
As they dodge disbelief and uncertainty of inexplicable imprints,
They still afford to power a smile on our being
Swallow, choke, rewind

I saw the unmatchable glitters through the broken wall
I suddenly bit my tongue on the verge of lamentations
The warmth and tenderness of a purified soul
released my eyesight from its bondage of afflictions
I almost whistled like the free and immaculate bird out of its hole
It was true, gratitude is the purest form of affection

Warm wishes in this festive season from Poetic-Couture. You are loved :-*

Blank Page

When we play with fire, we place ourselves in a momentum of hot spikes. The spikes that confirm the lightness of air, which rises above us to form a cloud of smoke. Our intentions are then consumed with fumes that only we formed and we chock as we reach for the burns that we get from misdirected flames.

We still swing the fire, despite the burns. Desperate for oblivion, we swallow the pain in a bid to make it invincible. But our knowledge is limited because we do not realize that we are overwhelmed.

Forgiveness is an antidote and a pain reliever. It stands for a selfish cause, and not in a bad way. However, it is one of the greatest mountains in the world and to reach its peak, we have to decide and commit.

Even though nature forces us to, we do not need to swallow hard when someone wrongs us. We only need to bite and chew gradually, then it will all be minced inside and excreted to the past. Swallowing hard build a tumor of emotions within us and we are doomed for instability.

In this edition of Pen and Paper Point, we light the “Let Go- Lantern” and set ourselves free as it is lifted in the air to ascend to an unknown place. To a place where our troubles fit. We feature one soulful diva who has a voice that is strong enough to make the White House crumble such that a state of emergency is declared. Yes! Christina Aguilera’s voice means war, war towards music satisfaction. She is one of few artists with valuable pieces of music advice. I would take any from her even if she was sleep talking.

We feature her song “Blank Page” that was written by her as well as Chris Braide and the mysterious Sia Furler. These songwriters captured reconciliation and forgiveness as a double dose of inner peace. I could not agree with them more. We need to release to relax. Built up pressure has no significance in your life. Breathe it out like its hot air.

BLANK PAGE By Christina Aguilera

I know there’s hurt, I know there’s pain,
But people change, Lord knows I’ve been no saint
In my own way, regret choices I’ve made
How do I say I’m sorry? How do I say I’m sorry?

I was scared, I was unprepared
Oh, for the things you said
If I could undo that I hurt you
I would do anything for us to make it through
Draw me a smile and save me tonight
I am a blank page waiting for you to bring me to life
Paint me a heart, let me be your art
I am a blank page waiting for life to start

Let our hearts stop and beat as one together
Let out hearts stop and beat as one forever

How can I erase decisions I’ve made?
How do I go back, what more can I say?
All that remains are hearts filled with shame
How do we say we’re sorry? How do we say we’re sorry

I’d go back in time and I’ll realize
Our spirits aligned and we’d never die

Draw me a smile and save me tonight
I’ll be your blank page waiting for you to bring me to life
Paint me a heart, let me be your art
I am a blank page waiting for life to start

Let our hearts start and beat as one together
Let our hearts start and beat as one forever

THE MIND OF THE DECEASED

mind of

I hear voices, imagine faces
The gathering of a mixed crowd
Memory traces
Some convinced, others in doubt
Astounding warmth in this cold compartment
A lifetime departure, permanent

The sermon is consistent
The words from my beloved
Similar to those from the loathers’ intent
an upside down of the world
Yet this bird is so persistent on this casket
like it was sent to bring a jacket

My tears internally dangerous
As the ravenous pretenders walk into my mansion
Am appalled at this distance
yet my joy covers my soul in oblivion
I wish I could afford a smile
so they could sink in comfort with a temporary sigh

I hope my purpose is reborn
So that my heart can pump again in the other world
and I rest in peace with satisfaction
at least I can fly with this stubborn bird
The weight of the flowers on me
Show the essence I was to reality

Heeeey! I am about that smile by the way. Yes, the one that you got on your face when you are reading this, or the one that automatically appears when you remember that beautiful soul :-). At least there’s mine.

Just the other day, I was in the supermarket and the queue at the till was annoyingly stuck, IT WAS NOT MOVING! Well, you can understand my frustration if I tell you that I was only lining up for a bar of chocolate (Rum & Raisins of course).

So as I deliberately stretched my head forward to figure out whether there might be a ‘ceremony’ at the till, I realize that the ‘ceremony’ that was going on was that of a mutual connection between two people.

Oh yes, the till guy and a pretty lady who was offloading the bulk of shopping near the bar-code stand. I mean, really??? a virtual wedding as we are stuck with a bar of chocolate in a queue of 10 people who seemed to have shopped for the world?

The scape goat was that the system was experiencing a ‘short failure’. Short indeed! Anyway, I was about to be mad but before that, my eyes within my stretched head noticed the lady’s smile. It was magical , I mean am as straight as they come but that smile could change the heart of a tyrant.

So I realized the reason for the till guy’s dumbfoundedness. He was smitten. I don’t know if the other people in the queue were upset, hehe, but who cares? That smile was important in our lives, it had to be seen, and for awhile! So I strutted out with my Cadbury’s magic that also made me smile.

My point is, a smile is the strongest weapon one can have against the odds of life. You define your own happiness with a smile. It helps you fit where you belong. What’s more, you have no idea how many souls you bless with that smile. If it wasn’t for Adam and Eve, it would probably be the best essence of fashion in a naked world. Whaat? am just saying.

This brings us to today’s edition of PEN AND PAPER POINT where we feature a sultry neo-soul songstress who gives you reason to listen to her songs from beginning to end. Chocolatey, delightful India Arie is one of those lady musicians who have an inspiring and powerful mixture of words and guitar tunes. Written by Anthony Harrington and herself, There’s Hope is a track that leave you feeling grateful and believing in yourself. It is simple, you have the power to be happy. Synthesize these beautiful lyrics. Kisses.

THERE’S HOPE
Back when I had a little
I thought I needed a lot
A little was over rated,
but a lot was a little too complicated
You see-Zero didn’t satisfy me
A million didn’t make me happy
That’s when I learned a lesson
That it’s all about your perception
Hey-are you a pauper or a superstar
So you act, so you feel, so you are
It ain’t about the size of your car
It’s about the size of the faith in your heart

Chorus
There’s hope
It doesn’t cost a thing to smile
You don’t have to pay to laugh
You better thank God for that *2
There’s hope

Off in the back country of Brazil
A met a young brother that made me feel
That I could accomplish anything.
You see just like me he wanted to sing
He had no windows and no doors
He lived a simple life and was extremely poor
On top of all of that he had no eye sight,
but that didn’t keep him from seein’ the light
He said, what’s it like in the USA,
and all I did was complain
He said-livin’ here is paradise
He taught me paradise is in your mind
You know that

(Chorus)

(Bridge)
Every time I turn on the T.V. (There’s Hope)
Somebody’s acting crazy (There’s Hope)
If you let it, it will drive you crazy (There’s Hope)
but I’m takin’ back my power today (There’s Hope)
Gas prices they just keep on rising (There’s Hope)
The government they keep on lying
but we gotta keep on surviving
Keep living our truth and do the best we can do

(Chorus)

Stand up for your rights (echo)
Keep shining your light (echo)
(echo)And show the world your smile

(Chorus)
