Kirk Franklin

Its like I am thirsty but am allergic to water, like I am drowning but am comfortable losing breath, like I am choking and I want to stuff my throat with stones, like I am bleeding and I am streamlined to swim in my pool of blood. My strength to constantly tell you guys how I miss you was taken away at some point but it is gradually coming back. Anyway, I hope it is not too late to say Happy New Year!

I am back, officially and I will never leave your sight again. Okay, I am done with the mushy shiznit. I don’t know about you but I want to be in control not to be controlled. I want to live not to exist. I want to explore not to be a lab rat. I want to conquer not to be stalled. Basically, I want to run my own colony and experience the feeling of constant authority. I just want to be happy.

I have the right to happiness. I am entitled to it and I will ensure I siphon every bit of it. I do not need permission to be happy, I can paint happiness on every wall I see. I can cling to it like a baby bear does to its mother. I can use it to create light in the dark, it is only a click away anyway. I can use it as a weapon to fight negativity. Happiness is my purpose and I purpose to be happy. Most importantly, I am generous enough to extend it to you.

This year’s first edition of Pen and Paper Point makes happiness sense with the lovely Kirk Franklin. He is like the most effective inspirational instrument in the gospel world. Well, Halelluya! The joy in me has risen. The first time I had the song “I Just wanna be happy”, everything around me froze, and the emotional and psychological quagmire I was facing were totally disintegrated. I can never get enough of it.

From the album “Losing my Religion”, the song was released in 2015. And yes! it deserves to not only be nominated for the Grammy Awards, Best Gospel Song Performance category but to also win. He wrote the words like an emotional surgeon, who cuts through cautiously to heal you. To understand what I am talking about, have a blast with the lyrics ;-*

I JUST WANNA BE HAPPY BY KIRK FRANKLIN
The truth can hurt you
Or the truth can change you
What would truth do to you

I just wanna be happy
But if I keep on doing the things
That keep on bringing me pain
There’s no one else I can blame
If I’m not happy
Wasted time but now I can see
The biggest enemy, it was me
So I’m not happy

Cry yourself to sleep
Shout and raise your hands
It won’t change a thing child
Until you understand
(Preach)

If you’re tired of being the same
If you’re tired of things not changing
It’s time for you to get out the way
Don’t get stuck in how you feel
Say Jesus take the wheel
He knows the road that you need to take
(But it only works if)
If you wanna be happy
(Look at yourself and say)
Don’t you wanna be happy
I just wanna be happy

But if I keep on giving my heart
For people to tear apart
The healing will never start
So I can be happy
Will I ever be happy

Cry yourself to sleep
Shout and raise your hands
It won’t change a thing child
Until you understand

(If I’m talking to you now say)
If you’re tired of being the same
If you’re tired of things not changing
It’s time for you to get out the way
(You been down too long)
Don’t get stuck in how you feel
Say Jesus take the wheel
He knows the road that you need to take
(I feel different right here)
It’s so easy to complain
Addicted to the pain
You give your heart, they push it away
(But I got good news for ya)
Jesus knows just how you feel
Just let Him take the wheel
The love you need, He already gave
(But the question is)
Do you wanna be happy
(If you’re tired of you then say)
I just wanna be happy
(Now if you really mean that, open up your heart and say it)

Let me hear you say yeah
Yeah yeah
(If you’re tired of going in circles)
Let me hear you say yeah
Yeah yeah
(Tired of making the same mistakes)
Let me hear you say yeah
Yeah yeah
(But now’s your chance)
Let me hear you say yeah
(Say yeah)
Yeah yeah

If you’re tired of being the same
If you’re tired of things not changing
It’s time for you to get out the way
(Are you ready, come on)
Don’t get stuck in how you feel
Say Jesus take the wheel
(Won’t He do it)
He knows the road that you need to take
(So easy to complain)
It’s so easy to complain
(Come on)
Addicted to the pain
You give your heart, they push it away
(There’s somebody that’ll never leave ya)
Jesus knows just how you feel
Just let Him take the wheel
The love you need, He already gave
(But the question is)
Do you wanna be happy
(Took a long time but I’m ready)
I just wanna be happy
(Thank you Lord, every day ask yourself)
Do you wanna be happy
(Yes, pull over, let him drive)
I just wanna be happy
